MONTELUKASTSODIUM 5 MG TABLETS

This tablet contains Monelukastsodium  as active ingredient.

Montelukast sodium isused to prevent wheezing, difficulty breathing, chest tightness, andcoughing caused by asthma.

It is generally lesspreferred for this use than inhaled corticosteroids.

HOW TO USE: Take the medicine by mouth before taking themeals and at the bed time. Do not take over dose this may cause side effects. Takeyour doctor’s advice if you have any confusion about taking of dose.

PHARMACOKINETICS:
Absorption: Rapidly absorbed with mean oralbioavailability of 64%. For chewable tablet, mean oral bioavailability is 73%.The 4-mg granules and chewable tablets are bioavailable when fasting. High-fatmeals decrease granules’ peak concentration by 35% and prolong time to peakfrom 1 to 3 hours to 3.5 to 9 hours.

Minimally distributed to the tissues with a steady statevolume of distribution of 8 to 11 L. Over 99% is bound to plasma proteins.

Metabolism: Extensively metabolized, but plasma levels of metabolites attherapeutic doses are undetectable. In vitro studies with human livermicrosomes demonstrate metabolism involvement by cytochromes P-450 3A4 and 2C9.

Excretion: About 86% of an oral dose is metabolized and excreted in thefeces, indicating drug and its metabolites are excreted almost exclusively inthe bile. Half-life is 2 3/4 to 5 1/2 hours.

PRECAUTIONS: If you are taking the rapidly dissolvingtablets keep your hand dry before taking medicine out of packet. Although airway function is improved inpatients with known aspirin hypersensitivity, these patients should avoidaspirin and NSAIDs.

Store in room temperature indry place. Do not keep medication in humid place or bathroom. Keep medicationaway from direct light and heat .Keep away from children and pets.
