ETHIONAMIDE 250 MGTABLETS

Ethionamide isin the class of thioamides medications.

Ethionamide is anantibiotic used to treat tuberculosis.

Ethionamide ispart of a group of drugs used in the treatment of drug resistant TBcalled thioamides.

Specifically it isused, along with other antituberculosis medications, to treat activemultidrug-resistant tuberculosis.

It was used fortreatment of leprosy but now it is prohibited.

PHARMACOKINETICS:

Absorption: Essentially completely absorbed following oral administrationand not subjected to any appreciable first pass metabolism.

Distribution: Readily permeates human blood cells and other body cells; notprotein-bound.

Metabolism: Hepatic and extensive. Metabolized to the active metabolitesulfoxide, and several inactive metabolites.

Excretion: 40% to 60% of a single oral dose is excreted unchanged inurine in 12 hours.

PRECAUTIONS: Usecautiously when giving drug to pregnant patients, breast-feeding patients, orpatients with hepatic insufficiency. Dosage adjustments are required inpatients with severe disease.

STORAGE CONDITIONS: Store in cool and dry place, away fromdirect heat and light. Do not place in bathroom or kitchen. Keep away from thechildren and pet.
