MUPIROCIN 2% W/WOINTMENT 15 GM

This Ointmentcontains Mupirocin as active ingredient.

Mupirocin is in thecarboxylic acid class of medications.

It works by blockinga bacteria's ability to make protein, which usually results in bacterialdeath.

Mupirocin topical(for use on the skin) is used to treat skin infections such asimpetigo or a "Staph" infection of the skin. 

Mupirocin topicalmay also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Common Side Effects

Blistering,crusting, irritation, itching, or reddening of the skin.

Canker sores.

Cracked, dry, scalyskin.

Pain, swelling,tenderness, warmth on the skin.

HOW TO USE: After removing any debris, such as pus or crusts, from theaffected area, apply athin layer of the ointment 2to 5 times daily over the affected area. You may cover the area with dressingor leave it exposed. Do not use the ointment in the eyes.

PHARMACOKINETICS:
Absorption: Amount absorbed depends on the potency ofthe preparation, amount applied, and nature of the skin at the applicationsite.

After topicalapplication, drug is distributed throughout local skin.

Metabolism: After topicaladministration, drug is metabolized primarily in skin.

Excretion: Inactivemetabolites are excreted by the kidneys

PRECAUTIONS: Apply ointments sparingly and only on the areas needed, not all over your body. More medicinecan be absorbed from around skin areas that rub together, like under thebreasts or between the buttocks, so apply very sparingly to these areas.

STORAGE CONDITIONS: Store in cool and dry place, away fromdirect heat and light. Do not place in bathroom or kitchen. Keep away from thechildren and pet.
