TACROLIMUS OINTMENT

This ointmentcontains tacrolimus as active ingredient.

Tacrolimus is ina class of medications called topical calcineurin inhibitors.

It works by stoppingthe immune system from producing substances that may cause eczema.

Tacrolimus isused on the skin to treat a skin condition called eczema in patients who havenot responded well to other eczema medications.  

Tacrolimusointment seems to be safe and effective for moderate to severeatopic dermatitis in children and adults.

Common Side Effects

Skin burning,stinging, redness or soreness.

Tingling skin.

Increased sensitivityof the skin to hot or cold temperatures.

Itching.

Acne.

Swollen or infectedhair follicles.

HOW TO USE: After removing any debris, such as pus or crusts, from theaffected area, apply athin layer of the ointment 2to 5 times daily over the affected area. You may cover the area with dressingor leave it exposed. Do not use the ointment in the eyes.

PHARMACOKINETICS:
Absorption: Absorption of oral drug from the GI tractvaries. Absorption half-life in liver transplant patients is about 5 1/2 hours.

Bound toproteins, mainly albumin and alpha-1-acid glycoprotein, and is highly bound toerythrocytes.

Metabolism: Extensivelymetabolized by oxidase system, primarily cytochrome P-450.

Excretion: Less than 1% ofdose is excreted unchanged in urine. 

PRECAUTIONS: Apply ointments sparingly and only on the areas needed, not all over your body. More medicinecan be absorbed from around skin areas that rub together, like under thebreasts or between the buttocks, so apply very sparingly to these areas.

STORAGE CONDITIONS: Store in cool and dry place, away fromdirect heat and light. Do not place in bathroom or kitchen. Keep away from thechildren and pet.
