In biosciences, it isused as a vital stain to selectively colour dead tissues or cells blue.

The mechanismof trypan blue staining is based on it being negatively charged andnot interacting with cells unless the membrane is damaged.

HOW TO USE: Trypan blue is carefully applied onto the anterior lens capsule using a blunt cannula. Sufficientstaining is achieved as soon as the dye has contacted the capsule. The anteriorchamber is then irrigated with balanced salt solution to remove all excess dye.

PRECAUTIONS:Wash your hands before putting in your eye drops. Be careful not to let thetip of the dropper touch any part of your eye. Make sure the dropper stays clean.
