ETHAMBUTOL 400 MGTABLETS

Ethambutol belongs toa group of drugs called antimycobacterial antibiotics.

Ethambutol is anantibiotic that prevents growth of the tuberculous bacteria in the body. 

It is used with othermedicines to treat tuberculosis and to prevent you from giving theinfection to others.

HOW TO USE: Take the medicine by mouth 30 min beforetaking the meals and at the bed time. Do not take over dose this may cause sideeffects. Take your doctor’s advice if you have any confusion about taking ofdose.

PHARMACOKINETICS:

Absorption: Absorbed rapidly from the GI tract.

Distribution: Distributed widely into body tissues and fluids, especiallyinto lungs, erythrocytes, saliva, and kidneys; lesser amounts distribute intobrain, ascitic, pleural, and cerebrospinal fluids. Ethambutol is 8% to 22%protein-bound.

Metabolism: Undergoes partial hepatic metabolism.

Excretion: After 24 hours, about 50% of unchanged ethambutol and 8% to15% of its metabolites are excreted in urine.

PRECAUTIONS: Usecautiously when giving drug to pregnant patients, breast-feeding patients, orpatients with hepatic insufficiency. Dosage adjustments are required inpatients with severe disease.

STORAGECONDITIONS: Store in cool and dry place,away from direct heat and light. Do not place in bathroom or kitchen. Keep awayfrom the children and pet.
