DIVALPROEX 250 MGTABLETS

Divalproex sodiumoral tablet belongs to a class of drugs called anti-epileptics.

Divalproex sodiumis used to treat certain types of seizures (epilepsy).

This medicine is ananticonvulsant that works in the brain tissue to stop seizures.

It works by restoringthe balance of certain natural substances (neurotransmitters) in the brain.

Divalproex sodiumis also used to treat the manic phase of bipolar disorder(manic-depressive illness) and helps prevent migraine headaches.

PHARMACOKINETICS:

Divalproex sodium quickly convert to valproic acid afteradministration of oral dose.

Metabolism: Metabolized by liver.

Excretion: Excreted in urine; some drug excreted in feces and exhaledair. Breast milk levels are 1% to 10% of serum levels.

PRECAUTIONS: Hyperammonemicencephalopathy, sometimes fatal, has been reported following initiation ofvalproate therapy in patients with urea cycle disorder (UCD), a group ofuncommon genetic abnormalities, particularly ornithine transcarbamylasedeficiency.
