SILVER SULPHADIAZINE & CHLORHEXIDINE CREAM

This medicine contains:Silversulphadiazine and chlorohexidine.

This medication isused with other treatments to help prevent and treat wound infections inpatients with serious burns.

It helps todecrease the risk of the bacteria spreading to surrounding skin, or tothe blood where it can cause a serious bloodinfection (sepsis). 

SilverSulfadiazine is an antibiotic. It stops bacteria from producing folic acid, avitamin required for bacterial multiplication.

HOWTO USE: apply a small amount of medication to cover the affected areaof skin with a thin, even film and rub in gently. The area may be covered witha gauze dressing or gelatin packing if your doctor has told you to do so.

PHARMACOKINETICS

The chemical ispoorly soluble, and has only very limited penetration through intact skin.However, contact with body fluids produces free sulfadiazine which can then be systemically absorbed anddistributed; it undergoes glucuronidation in the liver and is also excretedunaltered in urine.
