ARTESUNATE50 MG TABLETS

Artesunate 50 mgtablets is used for the treatment of uncomplicated cases of malaria. 

Artesunate 50 mgtablets is indicated only for attacks due to Plasmodium falciparum (aparticular type of malaria parasite), against which the medicine is active.

It reduces thenumber of malaria parasites in your body.

The intravenousform is preferred to quinine for severe malaria.

Often itis used as part of combination therapy, suchas artesunate plus mefloquine. It is not used for theprevention of malaria.

Hemoglobinuria.

Seizures.

Neuropsychiatricreactions.

Reversibleneurologic changes.

HOWTO USE: Take this medicine two times per day with milk or water. Take thismedicine as advice by your doctor, Do not chew or crush this tablet. Be awareof contraindications.

PHARMACOKINETICS:
Absorption: Readily absorbed. Because peak plasma level may be delayedby 1 hour with a meal, administer drug on an empty stomach.

About 97% is bound to plasma protein. Drug doesn’t readily crossthe blood-brain barrier.

Metabolism: Extensively metabolized to an active metabolite(descarboethoxyloratadine), primarily by cytochrome P-450 3A4 and, to a lesserextent, by cytochrome P-450 2D6.

Excretion: About 80% of dose is equally excreted via urine and feces. Meanelimination half-life is 8 1/4 hours. Drug isn’t eliminated by hemodialysis;it’s unknown whether drug is eliminated by peritoneal dialysis.

PRECAUTIONS: Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to drug. Use cautiously inpatients with hepatic impairment and in breast-feeding women.

STORAGECONDITIONS: Store incool and dry place, away from direct heat and light. Do not place in bathroomor kitchen. Keep away from the children and pet.
