Drotaverineis of spasmolytic, myothropic, vasodilation, hepotensive action.

Drotaverine, anantispasmodic, has a good relaxing effect on intestinal smooth muscle.

Drotaverine inhibitsphosphodiesterasehydrolysingcAMP, thereby increasing cAMP concentration,decreasing Ca uptake of the cells and changing the distribution of calcium amongthe cells.

It decreases ionizedactive calcium supply to smooth muscle cells due to inhibition ofphosphoesterase and intracellular accumulation of adenosine monophosphate.
